Development Authority’s Smith is GEDA’s Volunteer of the Year Gov. Deal presented award

Oct 2013

MACON (October 22, 2013) – Today the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA), one of the leading organizations for economic development professionals in the U.S., announced Bobby Smith, Chairman of the Screven County Development Authority its 2013 Committee Volunteer of the Year. Gov. Nathan Deal presented the award to Smith at GEDA’s Annual Awards Ceremony, this year held at the Macon Marriott City Center.

Smith has chaired the Screven County Development Authority since 2010, but has been a tireless volunteer on behalf of the county for several years, according to Dorie Bacon of the Screven County Development Authority, who nominated Smith for the GEDA award.

“Despite his work and many volunteer obligations, Bobby always makes himself available to ensure prospect visits to Screven County are a success,” said Bacon. “From cooking dinner for more than 100 people for an existing industry appreciation event to mowing the industrial park before a prospect visit and driving vans for tours, no task is too great or small for Bobby.”

The Volunteer of the Year Award is as chance for GEDA members to recognize the volunteers of their respective organizations that give their time and talents for the work of economic developers. Smith was selected as this year’s winner among numerous nominations from the members.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, GEDA is a non-profit association of professionals, volunteers and supporters. The association provides networking and professional development opportunities for its members, and supports public policies that promote quality job creation and sustainable economic development throughout the state.
